Devon and Cornwall collectors can gain regular access to postcards all the year round by joining the hobby’s best supported club. Plymouth Postcard Collectors Club invites all the South West’s leading dealers to their monthly meetings on an annual rota basis. One, and occasionally two dealers, display and sell their postcards for over an hour at the Scout Centre, Manadon, Plymouth, PL3 5TB (7.00pm) on the second Wednesday of every month, except August. The Club, now celebrating its 15th anniversary, was launched by 25 keen local collectors and now has a thriving membership of just under 200 drawn from all over Devon and Cornwall. Over 60 enthusiasts regularly attend meetings to browse and buy cards in a friendly atmosphere as well as enjoying a talk on a variety of entertaining topics. Guest speakers in the last 12 months have included the BBC historian Adam Hart-Davis, the recently retired Chief Beefeater at the Tower of London, a Punch & Judy professor with all his puppets, a retired pharmacist with his chemist’s shop of yesteryear, a chimney sweep, and a TV themes music producer. The Club also organises a summer walkabout at a different Devon and Cornwall location every year and publishes a bi-monthly magazine-style Newsletter mailed direct to members’ homes.
